Xiaomi Mi 5S is an upgrade to the Xiaomi Mi 5 launched earlier and the Xiaomi Mi 5s takes after where the Mi 5 left off. It switches to the latest Snapdragon 821 chips, and it features slightly more battery life, as well as the new highly rated 12MP Sony IM378 sensor. The most obvious change is that it retires the glass panels in favor of a metal unibody and drops the Optical Image Stabilisation feature that was available in the Mi5.

The Design

As regard design one key difference between Mi 5s and Mi 5 is that Xiaomi switched out the glass back for a metal chassis.
Xiaomi Mi 5S still offers glass cover for the front, but the panel doesn’t feature Gorilla Glass or Asahi’s Dragontrail protection, so you’re going to need to pick up a screen protector if you’re interested in buying the Mi 5s.
Xiaomi Mi 5S is available in Rose Gold, Gold, Deep Gray, or Silver and offers a slim bezel. Xiaomi Mi 5S drops the home button, but the Fingerprint scanner is still in the same location and Xiaomi uses the Qualcomm’s ultra-sonic technology, also known as Snapdragon Sense ID, on its fingerprint sensor.
Though most fingerprint readers scan a 2D image of your fingerprint, this new ultrasonic model with Snapdragon Sense ID uses sound to more accurately analyse the ridges and grooves of your fingerprint, even when your finger is wet. This allows the scanner to work more better.

The Display

Xiaomi Mi 5S sports a 5.15-inch IPS Display. The 5.15-inch display makes the Mi 5s easy to use one-handed. The Display features 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution with good brightness and deep black. Xiaomi claims the screen will provide up to 600 nits of max brightness and the screen also offers good outdoor view. Xiaomi Mi 5S also features Sony IM378 sensor.

The Mi5s is fitted with the Sony IMX378, which is also used by the Google Pixel and the IMX378 is a 12.3Mp camera with an f/2.0 aperture.
The Camera sports dual-LED flash, phase detection autofocus, Panorama, auto-HDR, and also capable of shooting 4K video. The camera on the Mi 5s does not have 4-axis OIS which is a key feature that got a lot of attention on the Mi 5. The lack of OIS hurts when shooting in low-light scenarios.
Xiaomi Mi 5S comes with a 4 megapixels front facing camera for taking selfies but lacks Optical Image Stabilisation unlike the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Hardware and Software.

Xiaomi Mi 5S is equipped with two powerful dual-core processors clocked at up to 2.15GHz and 2.0GHz respectively and an Adreno 530 GPU. The Xiaomi Mi 5S Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 is faster than the Snapdragon 820 in the Mi5.
Xiaomi Mi 5S features two variants; one offering 128GB built-in storage with 4GB RAM and the other 64GB built-in storage with 3GB RAM. The 4GB/128GB model also adds 3D Touch-esque feature similar to the iPhone 7.
There is no microSD slot, as a result there is no support for memory cards. Xiaomi Mi 5S runs MiUI 8 on top of Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). It comes with USB Type C port and also supports fast 4G LTE with dual-band Wi-Fi.

The battery capacity of Xiaomi Mi 5S has been bumped up to 3,200mAh from 3,000mAh of the Mi 5 and the battery is non-removable. The Mi 5s supports Quick Charge 3.0. In short, the battery can charge to 83% in just 30 minutes.
