Design and Display
Nokia 2 is a mid-range device and it doesn’t offer something better than you’d rightly expect of a budget smartphone. The rear features sculptured polycarbonate back cover that fits into the palm of the hand nicely.
The Nokia 2 build quality is quite good and the 5-inch IPS display offers decent screen estate for content viewing. A resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels means image quality should be good as well.
In order to enhance the durability there is an aluminium frame. There is also Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to protect against scratches and prevents screen breakage. The Nokia 2 dimensions are 145.2 x 68.5 x 8.4 mm while the weight is 163 grams.
Interestingly, Nokia 2 enjoys water drip protection with an IP52 rating but this does not make it an entirely waterproof device — that would be somewhere along the lines of IP67-68 rugged certifications.
The Nokia 2 is offered in three-colour choices. The Black/Copper model has a black back and front with the aluminium frame coloured in copper. The Pewter/White model sees the front and back coloured white with the frame coloured pewter (grey). The Pewter/Black models follows the same pattern with a black front and back with a pewter coloured frame.
Camera and Storage
Nokia 2 has an 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash on the rear for low light imaging. The rear camera supports all the essential camera features like Geo tagging, face detection, digital zoom, auto focus, touch focus, smile detection. It captures up to 1080p HD videos at a speed of 30 frames per second.
In terms of front camera, the Nokia 2 comes with a 5 mega pixel selfie camera without LED flash light instead it comes with screen flash light that works for extra lights. The 5MP sensor front camera is good for taking selfies and video calling in day light.
The Nokia 2 offers unlimited photo and video uploads to Google Photos – a neat deal for a budget smartphone. The 8 GB internal storage on the Nokia 2 is of course quite less, but you have a dedicated microSD card slot for extending this by another 128 GB.
If you do not want to buy a microSD card, then you can upload your photos and videos to Google Photos instead as previously mentioned. This is good because Google Photos will create a backup of your photos and make them accessible to you on your other devices.
Performance and OS
The Nokia 2 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 Quadcore Processor and Adreno 304 GPU. The speed tops at 1.3 GHz – a hallmark of budget phones. RAM capacity is just 1 GB and this is a bit disappointing because a smartphone with 1GB RAM is not a good choice.
As regard software, currently Nokia 2 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and in future planned to be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Nokia 2 has a very large 4,100mAh capacity and this is major selling point of the Nokia 2. HMD Global promises that the Nokia 2 will have a “2 day battery life”. There is no fast charging mechanism available for this large battery.
The smartphone offers you several useful connectivity options such as 4G LTE. Nokia 2 supports LTE on all major networks in Nigeria including MTN, Glo Mobile, 9Mobile, Smile, InterC, etc. Navigation options on the Nokia 2 include GLONASS and Beidou. It has all the essential sensors like Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, Magnetometer or Compass, Gyroscope.
