Design and Display
The metallic build quality of the smartphone is compact and sturdy. The back of the Pixel 2 features a glass panel at the top, textured “hybrid coating” on the aluminum body, fingerprint sensor, and rounded corners. Though Pixel 2 is having a small screen for an Android smartphone, at just 5in, the phone is about the same size as a Samsung Galaxy S8 with its 5.8in display.
The Pixel 2 is 69.7mm wide. It is 1.6mm wider than the Galaxy S8. The Pixel 2 is dust and water resistant to IP67 standards (immersion to a depth of 1m) unlike the higher IP68 rating (1.5m depth) of the Galaxy S8. This help takes care of your concerns over damage by water and dust.
The textured coating aids grip and feels that makes it fit well into the hand with minimal worry about it slip off. Google Pixel 2 features a 5.0 inches FHD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. The Google Pixel 2 front panel is covered with the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. There are a few features missing such as memory card slot, headphone jack, and dual-SIM version.
Google Pixel 2 does not come with lens rear camera setup. It only features a 12.2MP sensor with a f/1.8 aperture on the back of the Google Pixel 2 that has both optical and electronic image stabilization for seriously stable shots.
One interesting aspect is that the Pixel 2 has only the one camera on the back, and still offers the Portrait mode which – in most phones – uses two cameras. It is also capable of recording HD 1080p video.
Hardware and Software
The Google Pixel 2 available storage starts at 64/128 GB of internal storage that cannot be expanded. There is no microSD card slot on the Pixel phones, unlike so many other Android phones that carry this expandable storage option.
Powering the Google Pixel 2 is 1.9GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with Kryo CPUs under the hood. This pairs with an Adreno 540 GPU and respectable 4 GB of RAM.
In the connectivity front Google Pixel 2 features speedy dual-band Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. The Google Pixel 2 comes with just a 2,700mAh battery. But this is not entirely bad when you consider that Google’s software has always been great at conserving power.
The battery life can be extended further with battery saving tricks because Google also has fairly smart Android Oreo battery saving options right in the notification shade. This enables the battery life to be extended beyond a day if you’re careful enough.
Google Pixel 2 offers you a loud and distortion free front stereo speakers that are rarely found on smartphones.
