ASUS Zenfone Selfie ZD551KL is a selfie-centric smartphone and is a variant of the remarkable Zenfone 2. The Asus ZenFone Selfie is aimed at selfie lovers with its front-facing 13-megapixel shooter and dual-LED flash. The ZenFone Selfie comes with a lot of options for you to control the camera.
Display and Camera
Asus Zenfone Selfie features the same 5.5-inch Full HD (1080x1920p) screen as the top-end Zenfone 2 model. However, one major difference between the Asus Zenfone Selfie and the Zenfone 2 model is the inclusion of Gorilla Glass 4 in the selfie smartphone, which makes it more resistant to scratches and the addition of the laser autofocus setup on the back and the huge camera system in the front.
The name of the phone however is derived from its front facing camera and Zenfone Selfie is a device that has been geared towards photography enthusiasts. You’re unlikely to use the front camera for anything other than selfies.
The Asus ZenFone Selfie features a 13-megapixel front camera, which boasts of an f/2.2 aperture and Asus’s PixelMaster imaging technology.
The front camera has an 88-degree wide-angle lens, so you can include a couple of friends easily in your selfies. The rear camera has a similar 13-megapixel sensor, with an f/2.0 aperture and the laser autofocus system. Both cameras have Toshiba sensors, dual-tone LED flashes and blue glass filters.
The rear camera of the Asus ZenFone Selfie is exactly the same as the one used on the Asus ZenFone 2 Lasers, and the performance is identical.
Power and Performance
Another major difference between Zenfone Selfie and Zenfone 2 apart from the camera is the chipset. Instead of Intel processors, Asus has gone for Qualcomm’s mid-end octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor that is designed on 64-bit CPU architecture. An Adreno 405 CPU takes care of graphics.
Running at clock speed of 1.7GHz, this processor is backed by 2/3GB of RAM, 16/32GB storage compared to 4 GB available on the Zenfone 2.
ASUS Zenfone Selfie is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system and it is coated with ASUS’s ZenUI skin.
Like Zenfone 2, the Zenfone Selfie comes with a 3,000mAh removable battery (User replaceable, Li – Polymer), That means as long as you have a charged spare on hand, you’ll never have to worry about your phone dying but it does not support Quick charging.
Zenfone Selfie handset features GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS. Connectivity capabilities include microUSB, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with Wi-Fi Direct and Hotspot. It also supports ultra-fast 4G LTE connectivity and at the same time the concurrent use of two SIM cards.
Sensors includes Accelerometer, E-Compass,Gyroscope, Proximity,Hall, and Ambient light sensor.

If you are more concern about a 13 megapixel front camera, a removable battery and dual SIM dual standby with 4G connectivity, and a micro-SD card slot, then Zenfone Selfie is a good choice to make. Moreover, if these things are not important to you and you want to focus mainly on a purer version of Android, good Android updates, premium build quality and great audio quality, then you might not need this phone. The ZenFone 2 with 4gb RAM is a far better alternative to ASUS ZenFone Selfie.
